Description
Detailed information about the Weight dashboard in Vehicle Performace.
1. How is the weight data calculated in the My Scania Portal?
The weight figures displayed in the My Scania Portal are calculated based on the vehicle’s factory specification, including the chassis, cab, engine, axle configuration and any registered factory-installed equipment. The system uses this configuration data to estimate the vehicle’s weight.
The displayed value should therefore be considered a calculated reference value. It may differ from the vehicle’s actual weight if bodywork, aftermarket equipment, loads or other modifications have been added.
2. What vehicle data or parameters are used to determine the weight values?
The weight values displayed in My Scania are calculated using data reported by several vehicle systems. Depending on which data is available, Scania may use information such as:
- Individual axle weights
- Trailer weight, when a trailer is connected
- Trailer connection status
- Gross vehicle or gross combination weight signals reported by the vehicle’s control units
In most cases, the total vehicle weight is determined by combining the reported axle weights and, when applicable, the weight of a connected trailer. The system automatically selects the most reliable available source from the vehicle’s onboard systems. This information is then presented in My Scania as an estimate of the vehicle’s operational weight.
3. How accurate is the weight data?
The weight data in My Scania is based on signals reported by the vehicle and provides an indication of the vehicle’s or combination’s weight during operation. However, it should be considered an estimate rather than a certified measurement.
Accuracy may vary depending on the vehicle configuration, the availability of weight sensors, the suspension type, trailer connection status and the quality of the signals received from the vehicle. In some cases, the reported weight may differ from the actual weight by several tonnes, particularly if weight sensors are unavailable for some axles or if temporary signal quality issues occur.
The displayed values should therefore be used as operational guidance rather than as legal or certified weight measurements. For an exact weight, Scania recommends weighing the vehicle on a certified scale.
4. Is this data suitable for operational purposes and reporting? Are there any limitations or tolerances customers should be aware of?
Yes. The weight data in My Scania can be used for operational purposes such as fleet monitoring, utilisation reporting and trend analysis. However, the values should be considered estimates based on vehicle signals, not certified weight measurements.
There are a few limitations to be aware of:
- Accuracy depends on the vehicle configuration and the availability of weight-related signals.
- Trailer weight information and sensor data may not always be available or complete.
- In some cases, the reported weight may differ from the actual vehicle weight by several tonnes.
The data is generally suitable for operational reporting and monitoring, but it should not be relied on for legal compliance, overload verification or any application that requires an exact, certified weight. For those purposes, the vehicle should be weighed on a certified scale.
